Improvement of Customer Service

Examinations of Diversity in Customer Lifestyles and Physical Characteristics Through hospitable customer service, MARUI aspires to deliver environments that offer an enjoyable shopping experience to all. For this reason, we provide opportunities for employees to examine what exactly constitutes an environment in which everyone can find enjoyment and to gain knowledge about how to offer such environments to all.

Diversity Training (Special Service Caregiver Training and LGBTQ Sensitivity Training)

Through special service caregiver training and LGBTQ sensitivity training, MARUI GROUP employees gain basic knowledge on these subjects to help them be considerate of the need for and contribute to the development of environments that are comfortable and enjoyable for all. In October 2020, these training sessions were changed from face-to-face Group training to online video training to enable as help employees as possible undergo training in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Universal Manner Placement Examination Program

The Universal Manner Placement Examination program is a certification program run by the Japan Universal Manners Association. This program is designed to teach about the type of mindsets and behavior necessary to properly interact with a diverse range of people. The curriculum is developed under the guidance of differently abled lecturers, making for a course that does not just tell individuals about the safest approach but rather endows them with a refined approach enabling them to offer true comfort and joy to others. MARUI GROUP began having employees take part in the program in 2016. As of March 31, 2022,5081 employees had acquired Rank 3 certification.

AEDs in All Stores and First-Aid Lessons

To ensure the safety of customers, we have installed automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at all Marui stores. In addition, we conduct general first-aid lessons of the same caliber as those performed by fire departments within the Group. This feat is possible because an employee of MARUI FACILITIES Co., Ltd., became the first retail industry employee to ever acquire the required first-aid instructor qualifications in June 2008.

Fire and Disaster Response Drills

Fire drills are held twice a year at sales offices and at all MARUI GROUP companies, and disaster response drills are held once a year. Through these drills, we seek to heighten the fire prevention awareness of employees to ensure an added degree of security for customers as they shop.

Activities of the Diversity & Inclusion Project Team

Groupwide Forums for Examining the Future of Japan and MARUI GROUP's Role Therein

The Diversity & Inclusion Project Team, one of MARUI GROUP’s official Groupwide project teams, was formed in 2018 through the integration of the Marui Future Project Team, which was created in 2015 to find ways to transform MARUI GROUP into a leader at providing products, services, and stores that can be enjoyed by all customers, regardless of their age, gender, or physical characteristics, and the Diversity Project Team, which was established in the same year to facilitate the development of workplace environments that are conducive to creating innovation through diversity.

Comprising diverse members from a broad range of age groups and workplaces, the Diversity & Inclusion Project Team proactively advances initiatives geared toward the accomplishment of its mission: Foster respect and contribute to the happiness of all people by encouraging receptiveness for the diversity of all stakeholders.

Project team members are changed on an annual basis, producing a new set of employees with increased knowledge and awareness each year to contribute to the cultivation of a corporate culture that lends itself to business innovation.

Inclusion Fes Events

MARUI GROUP has been holding Inclusion Fes events since 2017 to spread understanding with regard to its initiatives to contribute to the creation of a flourishing and inclusive society both inside and outside of the Company.

Held in 2019, the third Inclusion Fes event took place over a two-day period and saw participation by approximately 1,400 people, including employees, members of their families, and business partners.
